TRAFFIC FATALITY

Midland records its first traffic fatality of 2006.  44-year-old Walter Hunter, Jr. (1-31-61) died on Sunday, January 29, 2006.  He had been hospitalized since the January 22 accident.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on January 22, 2006, Hunter was walking on Lamesa Road in the 1300 block when a vehicle struck him.  The cab car, a Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling northbound on Lamesa when the accident occurred.  Another vehicle, a Ford Contour, was traveling north on Lamesa when it struck the stopped cab car. 

Hunter had received major head trauma.  The driver of the Contour was transported, treated, and released.

Officers are still investigating and no charges have been filed. 

In 2005, Midland had three traffic fatalities.


INVESTIGATORS SEEK INFORMATION IN ACCIDENT

The Midland Police Department is seeking information relating to an Accident with Injuries that occurred on January 24, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Wadley and Loop 250.

The accident involved a tan Nissan Maxima, a white van, and a gray Nissan Pathfinder.  The vehicles collided in the intersection.  The driver of the tan Maxima, 78-year-old Ursula Zoller of Midland, is listed in critical condition at Midland Memorial Hospital. 

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact police at 685.7108.  Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the collision.
