MURDER

At approximately 2:45 a.m., February 18, 2006, a patrol officer with the Midland Police Department noticed smoke coming from a house.  The Midland Fire Department responded to 1108 E. Nobles.  Emergency workers quickly noticed a vehicle backed up to the rear of the house with a deceased woman in the passenger seat.  The vehicle was not burned.

49-year-old Carolyn Keith of Midland had suffered massive blunt force trauma to the head.

The fire was determined to be Arson.

The victim’s son, 27-year-old Jeffery Eugene Keith (7-26-78), showed up at the scene and was questioned by police.  He had an odor of gasoline and had blood on his pants.

Jeffery Keith was arrested and charged with Murder.  Investigators believe there had been an ongoing dispute between the suspect and his mother.  Detectives believe he beat his mother, placed her in the car, and then set fire to the house and attempted to set fire to the car.

The victim’s body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

The investigation continues.
