PRELIMINARY AUTOPSY RESULTS

Midland Police have received information regarding the death of a Midland woman over the weekend.

Preliminary autopsy results indicated the cause of death for 49-year-old Carolyn Keith as Blunt Force Injuries.  The manner of death is listed as Homicide.

27-year-old Jeffery Eugene Keith (7-26-78) was arrested on Saturday, February 18, 2006, and charged with Murder in connection with the death of his mother.

A patrol officer spotted smoke coming from 1108 E. Nobles at approximately 2:45 a.m., February 18, 2006.  Emergency workers quickly noticed a vehicle backed up to the rear of the house with a deceased woman in the passenger seat.  The vehicle was not burned.

The fire was determined to be Arson.

Jeffery Keith showed up at the scene and was questioned by police.  He had an odor of gasoline and had blood on his pants.

Investigators believe there had been an ongoing dispute between the suspect and his mother.  Detectives believe he beat his mother, placed her in the car, and then set fire to the house and attempted to set fire to the car.

The investigation continues.
