POLICE NAB BURGLAR
Thanks to the quick thinking of two Midlanders, a wanted Burglar is off the streets.
Last night, May 10, 2006, just after 9:00 p.m., police were dispatched to 905 Andrews Highway after two witnesses observed a male subject attempting to break into the All Seasons Cleaners and Laundry. The couple gave a good description of the vehicle as well as the suspect.
With the information in hand, officers were able to locate the vehicle at a residence and take the actor into custody.
18-year-old Joshua Nichols (8-13-87) of Midland is charged with Burglary of a Building. He has cooperated with police and is now connected to 15 Business Burglaries and one residential Burglary. Businesses include: the Midland Chamber of Commerce, KFC, the Mint, Phillips Eye Clinic, Coconut Beach, and others (not Antiquities or COM pool). The Burglaries have taken place over a three week period.
The investigation continues.
MEMORIAL SERVICE
The Midland Police Department will host the annual Peace Officer’s Memorial Service in connection with Law Enforcement Week. The public is encouraged to attend.
The service is scheduled for Monday, May 15, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. in the atrium at ClayDesta Center, #6 Desta Drive.
The service honors law enforcement officers who have lost their lives protecting their communities. Fourteen Texas Peace Officers died in the line of duty from May 1, 2005 – April 30, 2006.
Representatives from several area law enforcement agencies will participate in the service.
MEMORIAL BIKE RIDE
The Midland Police Department will participate in a memorial bike ride. The event will take place on Sunday, May 14, 2006, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The route will start at the Midland Police Department, 601 N. Loraine.
The bike ride kicks off National Law Enforcement Week. The ride will honor fallen Texas Officers as well as the two M.P.D. officers that died in the line of duty in 1961. The ride will be 16 miles; one mile for each Texas Officer (14) plus M.P.D.’s two.
The Permian Basin Bicycle Association will participate and show their support.

LAW ENFORCEMENT DAY AT ROCKHOUNDS
The Midland Police Department will celebrate Law Enforcement Week with a celebration at the Midland RockHounds game on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at 6:30 p.m.
Chief John Urby will join other law enforcement officials in throwing out the first pitch.
The public is invited to attend the game and show their support for our local law enforcement.
PROMOTION CEREMONY
The Midland Police Department will promote one of its own. A promotion ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. in the third floor conference room at the MPD.
Officer Greg McCright will move to the rank of sergeant. 33-year-old McCright has been employed by the department for 7 years. He will begin his sergeant duties in the patrol division.
The promotion is the result of the retirement of Lieutenant Chris Cherry and the promotion of Lt. Bernie Kraft.
The media is invited to attend and help make this a special moment for the department.
