WALL STREET PEDESTRIAN FIRST PROJECT
Construction is set to begin along Wall Street in downtown Midland. A “Street Shakin” event will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at 300 W. Wall Street. Mayor Mike Canon, downtown business leaders, and city staff will be on hand for the event.
Over the next eight months, Wall Street, between Big Spring and Front, will be rebuilt. The changes will help create a more pedestrian friendly downtown with wider sidewalks providing room for outdoor cafes. Planters, landscape features, and brick pavers will add to the new atmosphere.
There will be brief closures of lands and intersections along Wall Street during the project. During most of the construction, one lane of traffic in each direction will be open.
Phase One work will begin on the north half of Wall Street at Weatherford and proceed westward through the Baird, Main Street, and Colorado intersections. Traffic will be moved to the south side of the street.
Phase Two work will move to the south half of the roadway. During each phase, there will be four-way stop signs at the affected intersections while work is underway at that location.
Business access along the roadway will be restricted when work is underway in the vicinity, at a driveway, or an intersection location. Every effort will be made to accommodate customers. Work at the U.S. Post Office driveway will take place during nighttime hours.
