JUNE 13th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • During a 9:30 a.m. briefing session, the City Council will listen to a presentation regarding a new program that is helping the city better manage information.  Contract Administration is a program that centralizes contracts and agreements in the city.  The software was created in-house and keeps track of all contracts including right-of-way, vendor, and service agreements as well as leases and franchise agreements.  They program monitors and tracks expiration dates then acts as a notification system, letting the staff contact know of an approaching expiration.  The system currently includes more than 300 city contracts.  Media Contact: Tommy Hudson/Assistant City Manager at 685.7200
  • The Council will consider awarding a bid for reconstruction of North Midkiff Road from Wadley to Loop 250.  The existing paving surface has deteriorated very rapidly in the past few years even with additional maintenance.  The existing paving surface is two inches thick and has cracks extending into the base.  This time last year, the traffic count for this segment of road was in excess of 23,200 vehicles per day.  Due to the retail areas adjacent to this street, the project will need to be completed prior to the holiday shopping season.  The work will be similar to the south Midland Drive project. The result will be new curb and gutters, handicap access at the intersection corners, and seven inches of surface.   Media Contact: Chuck Swallow/Director of Development Services at 685.7288
  • The City Council will consider purchase of the old Midland Savings Building from the Midland Municipal Management District.  The city has wanted control of the building for over 12 years.  Recently, the MMD purchased the property for $150,000 and secured a lease from the adjacent property to the north for $15,000.  Short term use of the property may be surface parking.  Long term use will be determined by the final Downtown Master Plan, Parking Study, and where the proposed Convention Center is located, if in downtown.  The Council will also consider going out for bid to abate asbestos in the building and for demolition.  Media Contact: Rick Menchaca/City Manager at 685.7200
