MFD PASSES FAA INSPECTION

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently put the Midland Fire Department to the test.  The Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) crews at Midland International Airport passed all criteria with flying colors.

The ARFF inspection is performed annually.  The MFD has been in full compliance with FAA regulations for seven years.  This year, the department proudly operated and displayed the capabilities of the two Striker 1500 ARFF vehicles purchased last year.

The FAA examines training of ARFF crews, their responses, curriculum in place, and record keeping.  Much of the inspection is conducted with simulated drills under a variety of scenarios.  The inspection takes 3-4 days.

Emergency communications, personnel safety, equipment, as well as knowledge of the airport, aircraft, hazardous materials, and fire science are examined.

One dozen MFD firefighters were involved in this year’s inspection as well as the District Chief.

SCARBOROUGH/LINEBERY HOUSE RECEIVES A FACE-LIFT

The Scarborough/Linebery House, located at 802 S. Main Street, will soon be the site of a 100-year-old celebration.  In preparation of this occasion, the home is being painted and renovations will be made to the cook’s quarters and outdoor restrooms.

The City of Midland’s Community Services Department has received two grants from area foundations to help fund the project.  Funds were received from the Fasken Foundation and the Helen Greathouse Charitable Fund.

The Community Services staff and volunteers of the Scarborough/Linebery House have many special events planned throughout 2007 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Midland’s second oldest home.
