AGGRAVATED KIDNAPPING & AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

Midland Police responded to the 7-11 store at Florida and Big Spring at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2006.

40-year-old Maria Navarette and her husband and niece drove to the store in their 2001 Dodge Stratus.  Maria stayed in the vehicle while her husband and niece went inside.  While sitting in the backseat, the suspect got into the car and began to drive off.  She struggled to get out and was dragged several feet to the alley behind the store before getting out of the moving car.  The suspect traveled west on Florida, north on Garfield, before wrecking out in the parking lot of Abell-Hanger, across from Midland Memorial Hospital, and hitting a parked car.  The suspect fled on foot but was caught by officers.

The victim was taken to Midland Memorial with abrasions and broken bones.  The suspect was also taken to the hospital due to his use of narcotics.

Police identified the suspect today as 20-year-old Christopher Leigh Rodriquez (7-17-85).  He faces charges of Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Robbery.  He may also face possible federal charges for Car Jacking.
