2006 SEAL COATING

The City of Midland will continue its annual seal coating project.

During second phase, week two July 17-21, city crews will target the area south of CR 60 to CR 69 from NCR 1241 to NCR 1248.  In addition, work will be completed in the 5000 block of Golden Gate.

The entire target area for this year is north of CR 60 to Trenton Drive (old WCR 54) from Avalon Drive to Dumfries Road and south of CR 60 to WCR 69 from NCR 1241 to NCR 1248.  This year’s project is expected to last three weeks.

The project will concentrate primarily on newly annexed areas into the city located just west of Holiday Hill Road.

An oil and two percent latex solution is used with crushed gravel on top.  This increases the longevity of Midland’s existing streets, adding 15-20 years of life and reducing reconstruction costs.

Seal coating takes place in different areas of the city each year.  The same area receives treatment every six or seven years.

CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON MIDKIFF ROAD

Construction will begin on Monday, July 17, 2006, on the portion of Midkiff Road from Wadley Avenue to Loop 250.

Crews will begin concrete work on curb and gutter, sidewalks, and handicap ramps.  Motorists will encounter outside lane closures during working hours while the concrete crews are in operation.

The existing paving surface has deteriorated in the past few years even with additional maintenance.  The existing paving surface is two inches thick and has cracks extending into the base.  Reconstruction will include replacing the pavement.

This time last year, the traffic count for this segment of road was in excess of 23,200 vehicles per day.

Due to the retail areas adjacent to this street, measures will be taken to accommodate shoppers during the holiday shopping season.  The project is scheduled to be completed in January 2007.

The work will be similar to the south Midland Drive project. The result will be new curb and gutters, handicap access at the intersection corners, and seven inches of surface.
