SCHOOL ZONES

The City of Midland wants to help remind motorists of the approaching school year and school zones.

Unlike last year, private and public schools have different start dates.

Midland Christian Monday, August 14
St. Ann’s  Tuesday, August 15
Trinity Tuesday, August 15
Hillander Tuesday, August 15
M.I.S.D.   Wednesday, August 16
Midland Academy Wednesday, August 16
Midland Classical   Monday, August 28

School zones will be activated according to the above dates.

Motorists are urged to obey the school zone signs as the speed limits can vary.  Speeding through a school zone can result in a $200 citation.

FILL THE BOOT

Midland Firefighters will hit the streets in an effort to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The Fill the Boot campaign will take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, August 17-19, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Firefighters will collect donations at four different busy intersections.  Look for them at Midkiff and Wadley, Midland Drive and Loop 250, Midland Drive and Andrews Highway, Wall Street and Big Spring (on Thursday and Friday), and at Wadley and Big Spring (Saturday only).

The money raised by these local heroes benefits the Midland Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The funds raised remain in Midland to provide essential program services for those served by MDA.

In 2005, the department raised $51,588.29 for MDA.  This total surpasses nearly every city in Texas, west of Dallas/Fort Worth.
