DON’T BE A VICTIM – KEEP YOUR CAR DOORS LOCKED
Midland Police want to remind all citizens of the importance of securing a vehicle when parked. This summer, the MPD has seen an increase in the number of Vehicle Burglaries. They attribute this to unlocked doors.
From May 20 – August 20, 2006, there have been 396 Vehicle Burglaries. This is up 28% from May 20 – August 20, 2005, when the MPD reported 309.
Of the 396 Vehicle Burglaries, approximately 50% reported no forced entry. The Thefts usually happen in residential areas. Apartment complexes, especially those along the northwest Loop, have been targeted.
Police warn residents not to let their guard down close to home. It is more of a habit to lock vehicle doors when around town, yet people tend to forget the importance of locking up when they get home.
