PARK & RECREATION MASTER PLAN
Public Meetings Scheduled

The City of Midland wants to hear from you!  Midland residents are being asked for their opinion and ideas regarding the future direction of parks and recreational activities.  Four public meetings will be held over the next few weeks.

Monday, September 25 M.L.K. Community Center 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, September 26  Henderson Elementary 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 28 Abell Jr. High   7:00 p.m.
Monday, October 2 City Hall 7:00 p.m.

The meetings follow a survey that was mailed to 10,000 Midland residents (10% of Midland’s population).  Approximately 880 surveys were completed and returned.  The public meetings are will serve as an additional avenue for city staff to receive valuable feedback from citizens.

KDC-Turner Partners of Midland have been hired by the city to develop a Park & Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan.  The citizen feedback is an important component.  Information from residents will help guide and structure livability in Midland for the next several years.  The Plan will also include a detailed look at staff and maintenance issues, potential for open space and the growth of the city, and cost estimates for projects to be considered over the next few years.  It will also compare Midland to other cities to determine the availability of park space and services vs. the number of citizens as well as define where the city stands nationally.

The last Park & Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan was completed in 2000.  The Park & Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan should be completed in fall 2006 to be presented and then adopted by the City Council.  It will serve as a guide through 2016.
