POLICE RELEASE COMPOSITE OF SUSPECT

Detectives with the Midland Police Department are hoping that the public can help identify and locate one of three suspects in a recent Kidnapping.

On September 18, 2006, just after midnight, a 17-year-old female was abducted from outside an east Midland residence while leaving her grandmother’s house and getting into her vehicle.  While attempting to get into the car, the victim reports being struck from behind, grabbed, and put into the back seat of her vehicle.  The suspects, a Hispanic female and two Hispanic males, held her hostage for approximately six hours.  The victim was released and pushed out of her vehicle by the suspects in north Midland.  The victim’s car was taken by the suspects and later located on September 30, 2006.

The composite features one of the two male suspects.  He is described as a Hispanic male, between the age of 16-19, 5’5” tall, weighing 140 pounds.  He has a baldhead with black bangs on his forehead.  He has a mole on his right cheek below his right eye and has slashes in his eyebrows.

He was accompanied by a Hispanic female between the age of 16-19 and an older Hispanic male who was the driver of the car.

Anyone with information about the suspects should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108 or Crimestoppers at 694.TIPS.

***A copy of the composite can be emailed or picked up at the front desk of the PD.***

PROMOTION

The Midland Fire Department will promote five of their own.  A ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at 3:30 p.m. at the Central Fire Station.

Captain Ken Whiting will move to the rank of Battalion Chief.  He replaces Russ Conley who was promoted to Chief in March of this year. Whiting has worked with the MFD for 24 years.  The new Battalion Chief will be responsible for all "line" activities (nine fire stations) when on duty.  There are three Battalion Chiefs with the department.

Andy Chandler will be promoted from Fire Driver to Captain.  He has worked with the MFD for 12 years.

In addition, three Firefighters will be promoted to Fire Driver.  Matt Marshall (has worked for MFD for four years), Robert Wade (has worked for the MFD for three years), and Rick Butler (has worked for the MFD for almost 10 years).

The promotion of these three (and one more scheduled for October 6th) are the result of adding three firefighters to the department.  The Fire Drivers will help the department cover the need for additional drivers (three shifts plus the one promotion) with the addition of a new ambulance now in service in north Midland.

The media is encouraged to attend and help make this a special day for the men and their families.

PROMOTION

The Midland Fire Department will promote one employee to higher ranks.  A ceremony will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Fire Station.

Firefighter Kevin Douthit will move to the rank of Fire Driver.  Douthit has been with the department for 6 years.

This promotion, and three others held on October 4th, is related to the addition of a new ambulance in north Midland.  Three additional firefighters were hired and three firefighters promoted to meet the staffing needs of the new ambulance.  One additional firefighter was promoted to Fire Driver due to domino effect of promoting a Captain to Battalion Chief.

The media is encouraged to attend and help make this a special day for the men and their families.

C.O.P.S. TRAINING CLASS

The Midland Police Department will conduct a new Citizens On Patrol training class on Tuesday, October 10 and Thursday, October 12, 2006.  The classes for both nights will be from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.  The classes will be held at the police department, 601 N. Loraine.

The C.O.P.S. program allows citizens to patrol neighborhoods as extra eyes and ears for the police department.  Officers cannot always be everywhere at once.  The volunteers of this program assist as a deterrent to crime and help catch criminals.

Upon completion of the classroom training, the candidates must ride for eight hours with Patrol Officers.  There is no cost, however, you must complete and submit an application for the program to attend.  Applications are available at the front desk of the police department or through the Community Relations Unit.
