ADDITIONAL AMBULANCE NOW IN SERVICE
The Midland Fire Department now has six ambulances to respond to the emergency needs of Midland. As of October 1, 2006, a new ambulance is located at station #9 on north Midland Drive.
In addition to the ambulance, three Firefighters were added to help meet new staffing needs. Three Firefighters are being promoted to Fire Driver as the new Firefighters are hired. The Midland Fire Department works on rotating three shifts – A, B, and C.
Until now, the ambulance located at Haynes and Midkiff, station #8, was the only one in service north of Golf Course Road. Due to the growth of Midland, particularly in northwest Midland, calls for EMS service have increased in this area. The new ambulance will help reduce response time and assist when the ambulance from station #8 is on another call.
Please help us in getting the word out to the citizens about this increase in emergency response.
PARKS & RECREATION HOSTS MAINTENANCE RODEO
The City of Midland Parks & Recreation Divisions will host an unusual competition that promises to deliver a few “Kodak Moments.” It is the second annual Maintenance Rodeo. The event will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2006, from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2300 Butternut.
Competitions will include Nail Driving, Leaf Blowing, Lawn Mowing, Truck and Trailer Operations, and Backhoe Operations.
The goal is to develop two teams that will advance to the Tri-Region Competition to be held at the annual Texas Recreation and Park Society Annual Conference in San Angelo in early November.
Last year was the first time in several years that the City of Midland sent a team to compete. The competition was held in Lubbock and Midland brought home several third place finishes. The divisions are hoping to improve on their record from last year.
Maintenance Rodeo Schedule
12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m. Nail Driving
12:45 p.m. - 1:35 p.m. Leaf Blowing
1:35 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Lawn Mowing

WEEKEND ROAD CONSTRUCTION
The City of Midland would like to inform motorists of an upcoming road construction project.
Beginning on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 7:00 a.m. until approximately 6:00 p.m., crews will be leveling the pavement surface in the 3300 block of Golf Course Road from Midkiff Road to Andrews Highway.
Westbound lanes, as well as the turning lane, will be closed during this time. Motorists are urged to utilize Andrews Highway for westbound traffic from Midkiff Road. Eastbound lanes will be accessible.
The “level-up” process involved a thin coat of tack oil followed with a thin layer of cold mix. The cold mix is worked with a motor grader along the traffic lanes leveling any depressions and/or low areas. The process improves the ride quality or comfort for drivers of the road surface.
