NO TRUTH TO EMAIL

The City of Midland and Midland Police Department have been made aware of an email circulating that has some residents concerned for their safety.  Officers with the department want to reassure the public that there is absolutely no truth to the email and citizens should not be worried.

The email states that a woman was attacked by five men last week outside of her apartment in west Midland.  It goes on to detail her extensive injuries, states one man was arrested, and that similar incidents have happened in all parts of Midland.  The email claims the attack was part of a gang initiation.  

Police officials have searched databases and reports and find no such incident ever occurred.  The searches were specific to the area mentioned in the email as well as searching the entire City. 

The City of Midland and Midland Police Department prides itself on open communications with its residents.  If such an incident had occurred, citizens can be assured that the news media would have been notified as a means of getting the information to the public.  The MPD often relies on the citizens of Midland to assist in investigations, especially when trying to identify suspects unknown to a victim. 

Please help us in properly informing our residents of this untruth.
