OCTOBER SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office. The total amount of revenue received was $1,506,952.
This month's figure reflects a 15.75% increase or a $205,049 increase from October 2005.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 is up 15.75% or an $205,049 increase from last year's totals at this time. Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $1,506,952.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; October collection is based on August sales.
***October marks the beginning of FY2006-07. Sales tax revenues for FY2005-06 reached an all time high of $18,990,000. This is up 20.16% percent from FY2004-05 when sales tax revenues reached $15,800,000.
FIRE PREVENTION MONTH AT THE MALL
While your shopping at Midland Park Mall the next few days, stop by and thank one of the many firefighters who protect our area. Representatives from the Midland Fire Marshal’s Office will be at the mall from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Thursday – Saturday, October 12-14, 2006.
The Fire Marshals will be handing out fire safety information, demonstrating Pluggie the Robot, and providing coloring books and hats for young ones.
The poster contest winners’ entries will be on display as well.
The City of Midland’s second fire engine will be on display. The 1928 engine was completely refurbished by the Downtown Lion’s Club.
Fire Prevention Week is held every year during the week of October 9th and is the result of the devastating Chicago fire that occurred in 1871. This fire burnt through most of Chicago killing over 250 people and leaving over 100,000 people homeless. Fire Prevention Week was established to remind citizens of the dangers of fire and how to prevent them.
The Midland Fire Department will also be hosting several fire station tours throughout the month of October as well as presenting numerous fire safety programs to school children and businesses in Midland. Call for program information and times.
