MAYOR SPEAKS TO YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Midland Mayor Mike Canon will be the guest speaker at a meeting of Young Professionals Midland (YPM).  The event will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006, at 12:00 p.m. at the Museum of the Southwest.

Mayor Canon will share his hopes and visions with the group.  Topics will include the importance of recruiting young professionals to Midland, creating jobs for young professionals, increasing activities for young professionals and young families, and how those already living in Midland can help in these efforts.  He will also address the future of YPM and the impact YPM can have on our community.

Tickets are $15 for non-members.  Please RSVP to info@ypmidland.org .

YPM is a newly formed association designed to create business opportunities, support community involvement, provide leadership education, and promote an overall investment in the future of Midland.

The organization realizes that Midland businesses have two major future dilemmas: 1)“baby boomers” are ready for retirement and need to be replaced by young professionals and 2) young professionals are not staying in the Midland area.  YPM’s solution to these dilemmas - through community involvement, leadership education, and networking, YPM can connect young professionals for a bright and successful future in the Midland area.

YPM has hosted several small networking functions to promote the association. They plan to start slowly with a small focused group of individuals who are willing to help out the community and eventually build over the next couple of years.  The association became official on October 5, 2006, with approximately 20 members and is currently working under the Midland Chamber of Commerce.
