BRADFORD PARK & HABITAT

The tent is going up at James M. Bradford Park.  This week, the park, located at 801 E. Pennsylvania will serve as “home base” for workers with Habitat for Humanity. Beginning Tuesday, October 24 through Thursday, October 26, 2006, volunteers will be building homes just across from Bradford Park.

Habitat for Humanity approached the City and asked to erect a tent at Bradford Park to be used by volunteers as they serve food to workers and need a resting area.

Habitat for Humanity is building three houses just across from Bradford Park.

YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL

The City of Midland’s newest Youth Advisory Council (YAC) will meet each other as they come together for the first time as a group.  On Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.  The YAC will play games to help them get to know one another and work on team building. 

The student’s main purpose is to provide an opportunity for youth to share in local government matters and to learn how to become more responsible and accountable citizens.  Their goal is to draw on experiences in their own lives and help others to develop the self-esteem and confidence to actively participate in issues concerning them, their peers, and the community. The YAC strives to become a voice for the youth in Midland.  YAC acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council and will share their ideas and concerns.  YAC will also be responsible for planning activities/parties for youth to providing them something to do in a drug/alcohol free environment. 

The YAC consists of 18 students who attend Midland Freshman, Lee Freshman, Midland High, Lee High, Trinity, and Midland Christian.  2006-2007 YAC members are:
