FACELIFT FOR DOUG RUSSELL POOL
One of the City’s two outdoor pools will receive additional renovations.  The 46-year-old bathhouse facility at Doug Russell Pool, 900 N. Midland Drive, is currently being demolished and an area is being prepped for a new feature.  The media is invited to go to the site November 9 & 10, 2006, for video and photo opportunities.

After initial bids on the project came in much higher than anticipated, the City went back to the drawing board.  The idea of having city staff redesign the project in-house saved a substantial amount of money.  The Transportation Division is also working in-house to demolish the bathhouse and remove the debris.

The project contractor will then remove additional concrete before building a new bathhouse and constructing a spray park.   Staff hopes that the project can be completed in time for the opening of the pool on Memorial Day weekend 2007.

In May, the pool received seven new canopies to provide shade on the south deck, the concession area, and a new children’s area.

Other renovations made include: replacing the two diving boards and stands, replacing the fence between the children’s area and the pool, and new lights on the outside of pool perimeter.
