EMPLOYEE TEAM TO WALK FOR WISHES
They will be up early, bundled up, and ready to go!  More than 20 City of Midland employees will participate in the first Midland Walk for Wishes to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The walk will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2006, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Scharbauer Sports Complex.  The City of Midland is a co-sponsor of the event.

The walk is a culmination of weeks of fundraising activity.  City of Midland employees came together to organize a team.  The “City of Midland Dream Catchers” have been busy collecting donations in hopes of being one of the top fundraising teams.  “Dream Catchers” represent a variety of departments in the city from Fire, Police, Utilities, Computer Information Systems, GIS, Legal, Administrative Services, Code Enforcement, and Parks & Recreation.  Some team members plan to walk while others will participate in the 5K run.

Team Captain, Tina Jauz, helped organize the team.  Jauz’ 6-year-old son was a recipient of the Make-A-Wish Foundation this summer.  The family traveled to Disney World in Orlando.

SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED
Midland Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for the shooting of a 19-year-old last night, November 16, 2006.

Patrol officers arrested 27-year-old Michael Young (11-9-79) at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Young is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Police were called to the 3000 block of North Midland Drive at approximately 6:00 p.m. last night in reference to a large disturbance with weapons.  While in route to the scene, officers were advised of shots fired.  When officers arrived at the scene, they learned one man had been shot and was in route to the hospital by private vehicle.  Officers located witnesses and a crime scene.    The preliminary investigation revealed that a large group of males were standing in the parking lot of the apartment complex when an argument broke out.  Young pulled a weapon and shot Brent Graves once in the leg.  Injuries were non-life threatening.

Both the victim and suspect are from Midland.

The investigation continues.
