CITY DECORATES FOR THE HOLIDAYS
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Downtown Midland. Crews will begin hanging decorations along Wall Street today, Monday, November 20, 2006. City workers will begin at Weatherford and work west to Garfield.
136 wreaths, eight strands of garland, and a 15-foot snowman will help decorate the City. A total of 170 man-hours will be spent hanging the decorations.
This is the second year for these decorations as they were purchased last year. The decorations will be removed in early January.
THIRD SUSPECT ARRESTED
A third suspect in the auto thefts from a local dealer last week was arrested over the weekend. 32-year-old Vincente Hernandez (7-21-74) was arrested Sunday. He is charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Failure to ID in connection with the theft of three vehicles on November 14th.
At approximately 1:12 a.m. on December 14, 2006, Hernandez and two other suspects, 20-year-old Naticia Barfield (6-4-86) and 22-year-old Raymond Rando (10-7-84), were spotted by COPS volunteers on foot near Midkiff and Wall. A short time later, they were spotted in two vehicles driving in the area without headlights. They began driving at a high rate of speed. The volunteers noticed new car tags on both vehicles and notified dispatch of possible stolen vehicles. Officers arrived, and after a short pursuit, stopped both vehicles and arrested Barfield and Rando while Hernandez fled on foot.
