FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION PLAYS SANTA
A group of Midland Firefighters has adopted a family, and with the help of the Salvation Army, will deliver Christmas gifts with their fire truck as the sleigh. The event will take place on Friday, December 22, 2206, at 6:00 p.m. at 319 Willowood. The media is invited to come and help share their spirit of giving.
Working in conjunction with the Salvation Army and the Midland Fire Department, the gifts will be delivered by firefighters from Station 6 on their engine. Many thanks to the individuals and businesses who supported the M.F.D. fundraising efforts.
SWEARING-IN CEREMONY
The Midland Police Department will welcome three new officers. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Friday, December 22, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the third floor classroom.
Brad Barnes, Jesse Robledo III, and Jacob Young will take the oath of office.
The recruits have completed 16-weeks at the Permian Basin Regional Academy and have passed the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Education Standards examination. They will move on to the Field Training Officer (FTO) program as Probationary Police Officers (PPO) for 17-weeks. During this time, they are teamed up with experienced officers and are rated daily on their performance in the field as well as paper work.
The media is invited to attend and to help make this a special day for these officers.
CITY HOLIDAY
The City of Midland will observe the Christmas holiday on Monday, December 25, 2006.
In observance of this holiday, City of Midland offices will be closed.
Emergency personnel will work normal shifts to provide services to the community.
Offices will reopen on Tuesday, December 26, 2006.
Residents should note - following Christmas, trash pick up will resume on Tuesday, December 26, 2006.
CHRISTMAS TREE DISPOSAL LOCATIONS
The City of Midland currently has two drop off areas designated for Christmas tree disposal and mulching.
Residents are encouraged to take their trees to the following areas:
- Hogan Park softball field #7, 1201 E. Wadley. Enter off Lamesa Road by the National Guard Armory.
- Claydesta Post Office area, near the intersection of Veterans Airpark Lane and Claydesta.
Parks and sanitation crews will pick up the trees from the location and haul them to the city landfill for mulching. The mulching saves landfill space and can be used later as fertilizer.
***The City discourages people from dumping trees at other city parks.***
