ROAD CONSTRUCTION
Construction crews will begin work this week to complete the N. Midkiff Road reconstruction process.  On Tuesday, January 9, 2007, workers will set up barricades to block off half of N. Midkiff from Wadley to Loop 250.

Construction crews will be lowering manholes and water valves so the street can be milled. Milling and paving operations are scheduled to start Monday January 15, 2007.   One half of the street will be milled and the paving base constructed allowing for at least one lane of traffic to be open traveling each direction.   Side streets, alleys, and driveways will be closed temporarily as the milling and paving operations pass by them.

Once the base is completed for the first half of the street, traffic will be re-routed and barricades reset for the second half of the street.  When the milling and base on the second half of the street is completed, the top course of paving will be constructed.

Crews have approximately 6-weeks of work to complete the entire project.  Last fall, work was completed on installation of sidewalks and other concrete work.  Work ceased during the holiday shopping season (from Thanksgiving – Christmas) as to not interrupt the traffic flow during the busy time.

SCAM
Midland Police want to warn the public of an ongoing scam.  On Tuesday, January 9, 2007, police received a report of an older woman who was approached by a woman in the parking lot of the North side Wal-Mart.  The woman needed a ride to her place of employment, which she stated was Citibank.  While still in the parking lot of Wal-Mart the woman then explains how she found a day-planner that was left in a shopping cart.  The planner contained a large amount of cash.  She then called a “co-worker” at the bank.  After getting off the phone, she explained to the older woman that if they would go into a business venture together, both put up some cash, they could claim the money was theirs or possibly receive a “finders fee.”

The older woman actually gave the scam artist a ride to a nearby convenience store before she began to wonder about the reality of the situation.  Luckily, no money was exchanged.

The woman attempting to commit the scam is described as a black female, 5’3” tall, short shoulder length hair, wearing a three-piece suit, and carrying a black business bag with a flap.

Since no money was exchanged yesterday, no crime was committed.  However, if the woman trying to commit the scam has taken money from someone, she could face Fraud charges.

Anyone who has, or in the future, encounters this individual, they should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108.
