PROMOTION
The Midland Fire Department will promote two employees to higher ranks.  A ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Fire Station.

Fire Driver Juan Escarsega will move to the rank of Fire Captain.  Escarsega has been with the department for 11 years. 

Firefighter Bill Derrick will be promoted to Fire Driver.  Derrick has been with the department for 8 years.

The media is encouraged to attend and help make this a special day for the men and their families.

CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY BEGINS
The Midland Police Department will kick-off its 32nd class of the Citizens Police Academy.

The CPA class begins tonight, Tuesday, January 16, 2007, and continues every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. for 6 weeks.  The class will gather in the third floor classroom of the MPD.

The students will gain a working knowledge of the every day operation of the Midland Police Department.  The citizens enrolled are provided with information to help them better understand the day-to-day business which includes class lectures, firearms instruction, a chance to Aride-along@ with police officers, canine demonstrations, SWAT, and the opportunity to investigate a mock crime scene.  All training is provided at no cost.

Officers hope that graduates take their new knowledge into the community and educate others when opportunity arises and make decisions that affect the City and PD with heightened awareness and better information.

The media is invited to help make this an exciting time for the students.
