MIDLAND POLICE RECEIVE FURTHER INFORMATION
Following the initial release of information regarding two Attempted Abductions, police have received further details about the suspect(s).
After watching the local news broadcasts about the Attempted Abduction of a 5-year-old female in the 4400 block of Seminole, three Henderson Elementary students provided additional information regarding a possible suspect vehicle. The three students advised they noticed the suspects and vehicle while walking home from school on January the 10th and 11th. The one of the suspects was making inappropriate facial gestures at the female students who are 12 to nine years old.
They describe the truck as a white 2-door work truck, with large blue, black, and white decal signs on the doors. The truck had amber lights on the top of the cab, two large antennas, and a 6-10 inch oval sticker in the middle of the tailgate.
The students advised that the driver was a Hispanic male with a small goatee on his chin, short hair, and appeared to be in his 30's or 40's. The driver was alone on the 10th but had another passenger in his truck on the 11th.
The Midland Police Department is following up on numerous calls from the public. Anyone with further information should contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108 or Crimestoppers at 694.TIPS. Anyone who encounters the suspect(s) should attempt to obtain a license plate number if at all possible.
JANUARY 23rd CITY COUNCIL MEETING
- The City Council will consider approval of advertising and bids for Phase II of the Midland International Airport Landscape Project. Landscaping was completed in 2006 at the corner of LaForce and Sloan Blvds. The additional landscaping will compliment the existing using drought tolerant plants. The projects combined will help improve the overall appearance of the airport and particularly to its gateways. Media Contact: Marv Esterly/Director of Airports at 560.2200
- The Council will consider authorizing approval for the MPD to apply for a $35,000 grant from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. The grant would contribute to the enforcement of underage drinking laws. In 2005, the MPD recorded 68 vehicle crashes in which drivers, under the age of 21, had consumed alcohol. Records also indicate that 679 arrests were made for minors in possession and/or consuming alcohol, 90 arrests for publicly intoxicated minors, and 31 arrests for DWI violations by persons fewer than 21 years of age. - The Council will consider authorizing Midland Junior Baseball Association to raise funds for installation of lights at the Joe Mowles Little League Complex at Windlands Park. The park currently has one lighted field. Over the past few years, participation levels have increased, making it more challenging for the league to complete games prior to sunset. The Mid-Cities Little League will raise funds to help the city purchase and install the lights at three fields for a cost of approximately $150,000. - Every two years, the City has the opportunity to support positive projects in the community. In accordance with the Capital Improvement Program, the City will issue its 2007 Certificates of Obligation (CO’s) to help make the projects become a reality. The City Manager’s recommendations for expenditures of the $7 million include: Wadley Avenue Reconstruction, South Garfield Extension, Doug Russell Pool Improvements, Future Fire Station Site, Traffic Light Synchronization System, Developer Participation in New Developments, and MLK Community Center Improvements. This action allows Council to declare its intent to issue the bonds. The Final bonds will be sold at a later Council meeting. In addition, the Council will consider issuing bonds, $49.7 million, for the purpose of water and sewer related projects. Contact: Bob McNaughton/Finance Director at 685.7210
