The Midland City Council will help kick off a year of celebration. At 10:00 a.m. at the January 23, 2007, Council Meeting, recognition will be given to Midland’s second oldest home. The house was built in 1907 and is celebrating 100 years with a year full of events.
The Scarborough/Linebery House, located at 802 S. Main, was built in 1907 by Bill and Kara Scarborough, declared a historical home in 1965, and gifted to the City of Midland in 1996.
The City of Midland is committed to preserving history and heritage and maintaining the Scarborough/Linebery House to provide the citizens of Midland and West Texas with a glimpse of the past. The house provides education, entertainment, and opportunities for all ages – from the third graders who tour the house to the elderly who remember the days gone-by, to the clubs, organizations, private parties, tourists, and more who enjoy the house.
The Scarborough/Linebery House was built by a ranching family who wanted to provide their children with a better education in the Midland. They maintained the house from 1907 to 1996 when it was gifted to the City of Midland by Evelyn and Tom Linebery and the Scarborough/Linebery Foundation.
The citizens of Midland are invited to join in on one of the many celebrations at the house during this special year. Plans include a vintage tea, luncheon and style show, collections display, a play, yard dinner and vintage car show, ice cream social, fireside chat, and a quilt display.

NEW WAY TO APPLY FOR CITY JOBS
Apply online or in person, applicants for City of Midland jobs will notice a change that will improve hiring efficiency and make the entire application process paperless.
The City has contracted with HRsmart, a leading provider of talent management technology solutions, based in Richardson, Texas, to provide an online career center for job seekers interested in working for the city, and recruiters will have a central location for receiving and processing applicants.
The City of Midland currently employs approximately 875 people. At any given time there are as many as 15 open positions within the organization. The time it takes filling these positions can pull resources away from other necessary city functions.
In the past, to apply for a city job, an applicant could download an application off the city’s website, and submit the form through a city email account. An applicant also had the option of picking up a paper application and submitting it in person to a city office.
Now, with the implementation of HRsmart’s online recruiting and applicant tracking system, applicants simply log onto the City of Midland’s website, www.midlandtexas.gov, where they are directed to the career center. There, any applicant with a valid email address, can build a job seeker profile and simply copy and paste their resume and cover sheet onto the site where it is added directly to the city’s resume databank. If an applicant does not have an email address, the City has worked with the Permian Basin Workforce Network of Midland to assist with setting up a free email account. Once the profile is built, applicants can search for jobs and view a history of previous resume submissions. Paper applications are no longer necessary or available.
With the new system, recruiters for The City of Midland will be able to easily access applicant resumes from the central database rather than sifting through stacks of paper applications or pulling resumes from multiple files. An added benefit of the system is improved communication with applicants and the ability to quickly match the right applicant with the right job.
