TAKE YOUR KEYS WITH YOU
Officers with the Midland Police Department would like to warn citizens of the dangers of leaving their keys in a vehicle unsecured.  The message is the same, whether you park at home or in a commercial area, lock the doors and take the keys with you.

Just last night, January 23, 2007, three cars were stolen while people were “warming up” their vehicles at their residences.  When the weather turns cold, motorists are known to start their vehicles and leave them running, unattended, for a period of time before driving.  Officers warn that it only takes a minute for a thief to open the door and drive off in the vehicle that you started and warmed up for them.

Last week, the MPD worked six similar cases.  Including the three cases from overnight and the six last week, all vehicles have been recovered.  Some damaged and others not.

If you choose to “warm up” your vehicle in the morning, officers suggest you have an additional key to lock the running vehicle.

Help prevent crime and make it tougher for criminals!
