FIRE DEPARTMENT HONORS 8-YEAR-OLD
His actions saved the life of a loved one and now the Midland Fire Department wants to thank an 8-year-old boy for his quick thinking.

On Friday, February 9, 2007, at 9:00 a.m., an awards presentation will take place to honor Chance Self.  The ceremony will take place at Bowie Elementary, 805 Elk.

The third grader was home with his grandmother on January 24th when she experienced a stroke.  Chance called 911 and told dispatchers that his grandmother had fallen and she needed help.  He did not know how to reach his mother at work, but did remember how to call 911.

Representatives from the 911 District will attend the ceremony as well as members of the EMS crew and the dispatcher that received the call.

The media is invited to help make this a special day for this young boy and help raise awareness of the importance of teaching children proper use of 911.
