2006 CRIME STATISTICS
The Midland Police Department has compiled crime statistics for the year of 2006. The following numbers refer to Part I Crimes, crimes that are most likely to be reported and are also serious in nature and/or volume.

TURN ON THE LIGHTS
City of Midland Parks & Recreation Division Staff will be installing a 4-pole lighting system at the William-Sam Memorial Skate Park located at Beal Park, 5200 W. Wall. The installation will take place on Wednesday morning, February 7, 2007.
In May of 2005, the Midland Skaters Group was granted approval by the Midland City Council to raise funds for a 4-pole lighting system at the skate park. In August 2006, a check, in the amount of $8,023, was presented to the city by the group representing their fundraising efforts. The City of Midland appropriated an additional $10,000 toward the purchase of the lighting materials and is providing in-house labor for the electrical work and installation of the lighting system.
Lighting the William-Sam Memorial Skate Park will provide a safe environment for skaters during the park’s public use hours of 6:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.
FEBRUARY SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office. The total amount of revenue received was $2,429,077.
This month's figure reflects an 11.23% increase or a $245,212 increase from February 2006.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 is up 18.21% or a $1,425,035 increase from last year's totals at this time. Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $9,248,966.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; February collection is based on December sales.
This is the 41st consecutive month of increased sales tax revenues when compared to the same month the prior year.
