CART PATH IMPROVEMENTS BEGIN
Demolition is underway at Hogan Park Municipal Golf Course as improvements continue with the scheduled replacement of asphalt cart paths.

On February 13, 2007, the Midland City Council approved a contract with Onyx Contractors, Inc. to replace approximately 6400 linear feet of asphalt cart paths with 8 foot wide concrete paths.  The cart paths being replaced are located around the greens and tee boxes of #10 - #18 of the Roadrunner course.  Currently, city staff is demolishing existing asphalt paths with construction of the concrete replacement paths to begin in early March.

Completion of this project is expected for April 2007.

Over the past two years the Hogan Park Municipal Golf Course has seen the installation of a new central irrigation system, irrigation pond, and the completion of a newly landscaped facility entrance. These improvements along with the current cart path replacement project represent $2.2 million in improvements.

Golfers are reminded that during this current cart path improvement project inconveniences to the public will be kept to a minimum.

HIKE & BIKE TRAIL
Officials want to remind outdoors enthusiasts of a fun way to spend time while keeping fit.  The City is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Hike & Bike trail.

The trail is 1.5 miles long and runs from Lancaster Park to Loop 250 at Thomason.

This section of trial is part of the completed proposed trail system which will eventually connect the entire city to different roads, schools, parks, and the downtown area.  The trail system is intended to help pedestrians and bicyclists move throughout the city, between neighborhoods and between schools.

The City’s overall plans include building three additional trail sections, which would connect (South Midland) Midkiff at I-20 to (North Midland) Midland College by going around the west half of the city.

MIDKIFF ROAD CONSTRUCTION ENDS
The completion of the north Midkiff Road construction is drawing near.  All lanes of traffic are scheduled to be open beginning Friday, February 23, 2007.

Temporary closures will occur as crews work in intersections paving small areas tying into the new concrete valley gutters.

City workers will stripe the roadway as soon as weather (winds) permit.  Tabs are currently in place.

The entire project paved Midkiff from Wadley to Loop 250 and included sidewalk installation and concrete gutters.  The entire roadway now has a new street surface for motorists to drive.

The old paving had been in place for nearly 20 years.
