CITY EMPLOYEE NAMED TEXAS
CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR
In her 20-years as a code enforcement officer, Roberta Riley has experienced her job evolve and seen the City of Midland become a much cleaner city.  Many changes have taken place in the Code Enforcement world.  Roberta started out in 1987 driving around in a small Chevrolet Chevette and was required to wear a dress and panty hose as she made her inspections in the field.  Her inspections were noted on a writing tablet and then she generated letters by typewriter.  Today she is the Neighborhood Liaison Officer for the City of Midland who’s duties still include the work of a Code Enforcement Officer, but now she wears a comfortable uniform and drives a more appropriate vehicle equipped with a laptop computer.

In 1987 Roberta could never have guessed technology would bring her to where she is today, but what she did know was that she wanted the City of Midland to be one of the cleanest cities ever and has never stopped working towards that goal.

For these reasons, and more, the Code Enforcement Association of Texas named Roberta Riley Texas Code Enforcement Officer of the Year.

Roberta is one of five code enforcement officers with the City of Midland.  She spends her days driving the south Midland enforcing the codes and ordinances of the city.

Roberta plans to retire this June with 24 years of faithful service, with many memories and friendships she has made through the years.
