CONVENTION CENTER STUDY ONLINE
Residents of the City of Midland can now view the final report of the Feasibility Study of a New or Expanded Convention Center online.  The report, in its entirety is offered on the City of Midland homepage at www.midlandtexas.gov

The City of Midland contracted with Conventions, Sports & Leisure and Rhotenberry Wellen Architects to compile a feasibility study of a potential new/expanded convention center in the city.  The study explores the market demand, site/location, preliminary construction costs, estimated event levels, financial operations, economic and fiscal impacts, and funding alternatives.  Residents can read the details of the report online.

The Convention Center Citizens Task Force is currently meeting to review the final report and make recommendations to the City Council this spring. 


BURGLARY ARREST
Midland Police have arrested one man in connection with five recent Burglaries.

52-year-old Norris Cornett, Jr. (1-24-55) was arrested on February 27, 2007, in connection with the Burglary of a Residence at 108 S. Marshall on February 14.  Detectives have now linked Cornett with four other Burglaries of local businesses.

Cornett is believed to be responsible for the following Burglaries:

February 14

1109 E. Front

MISSING PERSON
Midland Police are searching for a missing Midland woman.

33-year-old Christina Alicia Rogers (10-11-73) was last seen on February 23, 2007.  She had been staying at the Imperial Apartments, 405 Sunset.

She was reported missing to Midland Police on February 28, 2007.  Rogers is described as a white female, 5’2” tall, with black hair and brown eyes.  She could be in a black 1998 Ford Mustang.

Anyone with information about Rogers or her whereabouts, please contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108.


MARCH SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office.  The total amount of revenue received was $1,514,116. 

This month's figure reflects a 7.35% increase or a $103,603 increase from March 2006. 

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 is up 16.55% or a $1,528,638 increase from last year's totals at this time.  Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $10,763,082.

Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; March collection is based on January sales.

This is the 42nd consecutive month of increased sales tax revenues when compared to the same month the prior year.


ANNUAL SERVICE AWARDS BANQUET
The City of Midland will honor 144 employees for their service to Midland.  The annual longevity banquet will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2007, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Petroleum Club. 

Employees recognized for 5 to 35 years of continuous service through 2006.
