TRAIN FATALITY
Midland Police responded to the scene of Eisenhower and Business 20 at approximately 7:22 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2007, in reference to a train vehicle accident.

According to witnesses, the victim, 64-year-old Khanh Tran of Midland, was traveling southbound on Eisenhower when he stopped his 2007 Camry at the train tracks with the front end of the vehicle on the tracks.  The crossing arms came down as the train approached.  Tran was unable to move his vehicle off the tracks before the train struck the driver’s side front end.  The force pushed the vehicle west and the rear passenger side struck the crossing signal pole bringing it to the ground.

Tran, the only passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later.

The last train vehicle fatality in the City was in 2000 at the intersection of G and Industrial.
