APRIL 10th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • During a 9:00 a.m. briefing session, the City Council will discuss the current restaurant inspection process.  The Midland Health & Senior Services Division will make a presentation to demonstrate what is involved in a routine food establishment health inspection.  The presentation will also include examples from other cities pertaining to how they publicize the results to their citizens.  Media Contact: Sal Garcia/Health & Senior Services Manager at 681.7645
  • During the regular meeting, the Council will consider supporting TxDOT’s plans for the La Entrada al Pacifico Trade Route.  TxDOT is currently conducting a corridor analysis and would include the resolution in their study.  The City of Odessa is considering a similar resolution of support as part of the public input process.  Media Contact: Marcus Johnston/Assistant City Manager at 685.7200
  • The Council will consider authorizing the Friends of the I-20 Wildlife Preserve to raise funds on behalf of the City of Midland.  In the future, the Friends of the I-20 Wildlife Preserve will request $750,000 in the form of a City of Midland match.  The master plan for development includes a nature study, hiking, birding, and wildlife observation.  The funds raised, matched by the City, will be used to construct trails, boardwalks, blinds, and hawk towers.  Media Contact: Scott Swigert/Parks & Recreation Manager at 685.7370
  • The Council will consider approving the City of Midland and Midland College collaborating to provide homebuyer assistance.  Midland College is applying for a $600,000 Hispanic Servicing Institutions Assisting Communities grant from HUD.  Midland College needs an entity to handle Independent Development Account clients whose objective is to purchase a home not offered through Habitat for Humanity or Midland Community Development Corporation.  The City’s Community Development Office currently handles homebuyer assistance activity.  An estimated 24 low-income households would purchase homes under this partnership.  Media Contact: Sylvester Cantu/Community Development Administrator at 685.7408
