CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT AT APRIL 24th MEETING
As a major employer, the City of Midland understands the labor shortages facing the Permian Basin. At Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, City Manager Rick Menchaca supported the Employee Compensation Committee’s recommendation to provide a 4% cost of living adjustment for all City Employees, in addition market adjustments to be made accordingly.
On Good Friday, Menchaca reached out to Chief John Urby, regarding his upcoming retirement and asked him to reconsider. He indicated that he would consider this and Menchaca was hopeful on this past Monday or Tuesday, he would put off his retirement plans. The Police Department is currently working on a 10 year Master Plan that will add police officers, address recruiting issues, and develop a succession plan, as well as pinpoint other major issues within the Department.
In addition to a mid-year 4% COLA, the City Manager’s Generation X Employee Advisory Committee, is researching additional benefit improvements, including:
- Five-Year Vesting
- 20-Year Retirement
- Unileave (a combination of vacation and sick leave)
Menchaca appreciates the expression of support displayed by many employees, managers, and citizens.
