FATALITY
Midland Police are continuing their investigation into a fatality accident that occurred last night, April 29, 2007, at the intersection of Midkiff Road and Interstate 20.
At approximately 8:25 p.m., officers were called to Town & Country, 2109 S. Midkiff, in reference to an accident. The preliminary investigation revealed that 21-year-old Raymundo Acosta of Midland had arrived at the location to pump gas for his 2006 Mustang. With him in the vehicle was his child, 2½ -year-old Raymundo Acosta, Jr. sitting in the front seat. The father exited the vehicle to pump the gas. While fueling, he walked to another pump to talk to someone he knew. During this time, the child exited the vehicle and attempted to walk toward the store. The child was not in a child passenger safety seat.
A 2005 Silver Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck finished fueling and exited the parking lot, striking the child, and leaving the scene. The child was transported by EMS to Midland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Hearing about the incident on a local newscast, the driver of the truck, 48-year-old Luis Montano of Midland, contacted police and informed them he may have struck the child as he was at the location at the approximate time of the accident. He did not realize his vehicle struck anything. No charges are anticipated to be filed against Montano.
The MPD will continue the investigation. Once completed, the case will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration.

WINDLANDS PARK LIGHTING
Walkers, Runners, and those who use Windlands Park, 1000 Dengar, at night should take precautions this evening. Lights along the walking trail will not be operable during the nighttime hours of Tuesday, May 1 through the morning hours of Wednesday, May 2, 2007.
TXU will be working in the alley west of the park changing out an old service pole, replacing it with a new one, and transferring service to the new pole. This will cause an interruption in service overnight.
Thank you for your patience during this transition.
