CITY HOLIDAY
The City of Midland will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 28, 2007.

In observance of this holiday, City of Midland offices will be closed.

Emergency personnel will work normal shifts to provide services to the community.

ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING
The Midland Police Department will host an active shooter event at the firing range on Thursday, May 24, 2007.  The media is invited to attend at 11:00 a.m.

Officers from the DPS and Midland College will attend.  MPD officers, as well as MISD Police, have already been trained with these techniques. 

The scenario will be similar to the drill at Coleman High School in March.  The tradgedy at Virginia Tech serves as a reminder of the importance of such training.

Practice techniques in weapons handling, building clearing, and responding to an active shooter will all be part of the training.  The techniques learned will be the same used by officers with different agencies throughout the area in an effort to work together.
