CITY COUNCIL OFFERS CITY MANAGER AGREEMENT
The Midland City Council voted to enter into a settlement agreement with City Manager Rick Menchaca during a public meeting held at 7:00 p.m. on June 26, 2007.

The agreement, which still must be signed by Menchaca, states that he will resign, effective July 31, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. and releases the City of Midland from any claims.

The settlement includes:

  • 16 months salary - $306,637 (current at-will agreement guarantees 12 months plus a 60 day notice)
  • Pay for accumulated vacation time - $43,484
  • Pay for accumulated sick time - $82,620
  • Insurance premium paid until September 1, 2009 – estimate value $8,417 (current at-will agreement guarantees two-years)
  • Moving expenses - $18,500
  • Conferences attended - $1,500
  • Attorney fees - $20,000

The agreement is preliminary until Menchaca signs the document.  He has 21 days to do so. 


NATIONAL NIGHT OUT KICK OFF PARTY

The Midland Police Department is gearing up for the annual National Night Out.  An appreciation party and training for block captains will be held at Fairmont Church of Christ, 3813 N. Midland Dr., on Thursday, June 28, 2007, from 6-9:00 p.m. 

The event will help raise awareness about the upcoming National Night Out event scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, 2007.  Information will be provided to help residents host a successful block party.  It is on this evening that neighbors come together hosting potluck dinners and block parties throughout the City.

National Night Out is a nation-wide crime prevention activity designed to heighten crime prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations; and to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back against crime.
