JULY SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office.  The total amount of revenue received was $1,927,304.

This month's figure reflects a 24.56% increase or a $380,058 increase from July 2006.

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 is up 15.64% or an $2,444,141 increase from last year's totals at this time.  Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $18,074,386.

Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; July collection is based on May sales.

This is the 46th consecutive month of increased sales tax revenues when compared to the same month the prior year.

C.O.P.S. TRAINING CLASS
The Midland Police Department will conduct a new Citizens On Patrol training class on Tuesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 19, 2006.  The classes for both nights will be from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.  The classes will be held at the police department, 601 N. Loraine.

The C.O.P.S. program allows citizens to patrol neighborhoods as extra eyes and ears for the police department.  Officers cannot always be everywhere at once.  The volunteers of this program assist as a deterrent to crime and help catch criminals.

Upon completion of the classroom training, the candidates must ride for eight hours with Patrol Officers.  There is no cost, however, you must complete and submit an application that gives permission for a background check prior to attending the class. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Applications are available at the front desk of the police department.

For more information contact Sgt. Seago at 685-7580 or Gloria Newman at 685-7582.
