CITY COUNCIL RESCINDS CITY MANAGER AGREEMENT
The Midland City Council met today, July 16, 2007, during a special meeting to discuss the severance agreement offered to City Manager Rick Menchaca on June 26, 2007.
The City Council voted to rescind the offer which Menchaca had not yet signed. The vote was 5-1 in favor of rescinding with Bill Dingus being absent from the meeting.
Menchaca remains an employee of the City of Midland. The City Council will meet during a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at which time they will likely discuss the employment of Menchaca.
FREE IMMUNIZATIONS
The City of Midland Health and Senior Services will provide free immunizations to the citizens of Midland. The free back to school clinics will take place on the following dates:
Thursday July 19, 2007
8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Friday, July 20, 2007
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
All shots will be administered at the City of Midland Health Department:
3303 W. Illinois, inside the Kingsway Mall.
All children need to be protected from serious childhood diseases. Immunizations can help protect children from Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Tetnus, Diptheria, Pertussis, Polio, Haemophilus Inflenzae b, Hepatitis B, and Chickenpox.
A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of eighteen and they must have their shot records.

HOT DOGS, APPLE PIE & VINTAGE CARS
The City of Midland’s Scarborough/Linebery House, 802 S. Main, is hosting an event Thursday, July 26, 2007, 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., that celebrates “100 Years of Heritage.”
The public is invited to enjoy All-American food and reminisce about by-gone days. Vintage car owners will be displaying their treasures in the parking lot east of the Scarborough/Linebery House. The event is $10.00 per person.
During 2007, the Scarborough/Linebery House is celebrating its 100th birthday (1907 – 2007), with monthly public events. Citizens of Midland, and the entire west Texas area, are invited to celebrate with the City of Midland in recognizing this historic treasure.
CITY EMPLOYEES AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS
Thanks to the generosity of City of Midland employees, seventeen college bound students are the lucky recipients of this year’s Midland Municipal Employees Scholarships. A reception honoring the students and their parents will be held on July 17, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center.
The Midland Municipal Employees Scholarship Fund (MMESF) recipients will be awarded $500 each - a total of $8,500! Municipal Court Judge Robin Smith will speak to the group of students.
MMESF is an independent, non-profit organization, relying totally on contributions from its members, who must be City of Midland employees. To date, that generosity has resulted in 185 scholarships totaling $97,300 since MMESF’s inception in 1995. Recipients are all dependents of City of Midland employees. MMESF members contribute $1 or more per pay period.
