RETIREMENT
The Midland Fire Department will bid farewell to a long-time employee. A reception will be held on Tuesday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Fire.
Captain Dan Friday will enter into retirement after 26-years of service with the Midland Fire Department. He first started work with the City in July of 1981 as a firefighter. He was promoted to Driver in October of 1984 and then to Captain in April of 1997.
The Midland Fire Department wishes him well. Please help make this a special day for the retiring employee and his family.
RETIREMENTS
The Midland Police Department will bid farewell to two long-time officers. A reception will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. in the third floor classroom at the MPD.
Officer Roy Sanders has worked for the City of Midland for 25-years. He most recently worked with the Traffic Division.
Officer Jose Perez has worked for the City of Midland for 21-years. He also most recently worked with the Traffic Division.
The Midland Police Department wishes them well. Please help make this a special day for the officers and their families.
COMMUNITY CALENDARS
OPEN HOUSE
The Midland Fire Department would like to extend an invitation to the community to join them on Saturday, August 25, 2007, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Central Fire Station, 1500 West Wall. This is not just an open house but also an annual community event that is open free to the public. It is educational and fun! They will demonstrate the skills involved in living up to the motto, "Proud Professionals Protecting the Community."
Activities will include: Free food and drinks. Prizes will be given away. Safety information distributed and demonstrated. Rescue and EMS (ambulance equipment demonstrated).
Special Equipment Demonstrations: Jaws of Life Demonstration, Snorkel and Aerial Trucks, Rope Rescue, Pluggie, Rescue Airbags, Rescue Cam Demo’s, and the Fire Safety House.
Special Features:
Blockbuster Video will sponsor Project Kid Print again this year. At no cost to you, they will make a DVD I.D. of your child. You provide the child, and Blockbuster Video will provide the DVD. Those who already have a DVD can bring it to update.
Public Safety Communications will demonstrate equipment presently used in Fire and EMS communications, as well as provide 911 information and brochures. Midland's 911 District will be represented. The National Weather Service will also have a booth.
Tours of the station, all equipment, and the fire museum will be available. Everyone is encouraged to attend in support of our local firefighters.
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS VACANCIES
The City of Midland is currently seeking applications from residents interested in appointments to various boards and commissions. The City utilizes term limits which create a turnover in membership. As the City approaches the beginning of a new fiscal year, there are 72 total expirations and vacancies on 18 separate boards and commissions. The City Council will begin making appointments in September for the terms beginning October 1, 2007. The terms vary from two to four years and meetings vary from monthly to quarterly or as needed.

PROMOTION
The Midland Fire Department will promote an employee to higher ranks. A ceremony will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Fire Station.
Fire Driver Allan Moore will move to the rank of Captain. Moore has been with the department for 12 years. He was hired as a firefighter in 1984 and promoted to fire driver in 1996. Moore moves to the captain’s position following the retirement of Dan Friday.
Moore’s father, retired MFD Fire Driver Benny Moore, will pin on his new badge.
The media is encouraged to attend and help make this a special day for the employee and his family.
