2007 SEAL COATING
The City of Midland will kick off its annual seal coating project on Monday, August 20, 2007.

The target area for this year will include arterials and collector streets within the area of Holiday Hill Road to Midkiff Road from Loop 250 to the North city limits.  The specific roadways will be included:

  • Oriole Drive from King Richards Row to Teakwood Trace
  • Oriole Drive from Robin Lane to Briarwood Avenue
  • Mockingbird Lane from Midland Drive to Midkiff Road
  • Briarwood Avenue from Holiday Hill Road to Midland Drive
  • Midland Drive from Island Drive to Loop 250
  • Holiday Hill Road from Loop 250 to Briarwood Avenue
  • Midkiff Road from Mockingbird Lane to Loop 250

The entire project is expected to last two weeks.  Motorists should exercise caution and drive slowly when traveling through these areas.  Flagmen will assist in directing the flow of traffic.

A chip seal is a cost effective surface treatment primarily used on streets consisting of a layer of asphalt cement followed by a layer of gravel.  The gravel is compacted into the asphalt cement by pneumatic rollers (rubber tire compactors).  The asphalt cement serves as a bonding agent for the gravel.  Chip seals provide benefits such as waterproofing the street surface, sealing small cracks, and surface rejuvenation.  In addition, skid resistance and surface drainage are improved.  Finally, pavement life is extended decreasing the need for major reconstruction.

Seal coating takes place in different areas of the city each year.  The same area receives treatment every six or seven years.

MISSING PERSON
Midland Police are investigating a report of a missing person.

28-year-old Cassandra Kidd (1-8-79) was last heard from on July 19, 2007. She had been staying in Midland in motels along Wall Street.

She was reported missing to Midland Police on August 15, 2007, by members of her family who reside in Midland.

Kidd is described as a white female, 5’2” tall, weighing 160-180 pounds.  She has long red hair, blue eyes, and a tattoo on the outside of her right ankle.  The tattoo depicts a bear and includes a bow with the names of her two children.

At this time in the investigation, it is too soon to suspect foul play.

Anyone with information about Kidd or her whereabouts, please contact the Midland Police Department at 685.7108.
