Midland Police were called to the scene of a traffic fatality at approximately 11:00 p.m. on August 21, 2007, in the 200 block of S. Lamesa Road.

Witnesses reported a silver Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Lamesa and struck two pedestrians who were crossing Lamesa westbound.  The vehicle left the scene.  While on scene investigating, the driver of the vehicle returned to location driving the 1998 Civic.

The driver, 21-year-old Erica Rodriguez of Midland, was the only person inside the car at the time of the accident.  She is not being charged at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

50-year-old Carla Sue Maxwell of Midland was pronounced dead at the hospital.  She and 54-year-old Edgar Adkison of Midland were walking across the street when they were struck.  He is in serious condition at Midland Memorial Hospital.

The pedestrians were crossing the roadway at mid-block and not at an intersection.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
