CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY TAUGHT IN SPANISH
The Midland Police Department is now accepting applications for people interested in participating in the 9th Citizens Police Academy presented in Spanish.
The Spanish speaking CPA begins on Tuesday, September 25, 2007, and meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. for six weeks.
It is an opportunity for citizens to gain a working knowledge of the everyday operation of the Midland Police Department. Citizens are provided with information to help them better understand the day-to-day business which includes class lectures, firearms instruction, a chance to “ride-along” with police officers, canine demonstrations, SWAT, and the opportunity to investigate a mock crime scene. All training is provided at no cost.

Academia de Policia Para Cuidadanos
El Departamento de Policía de Midland esta buscando individuos cuyo primer idioma es el español o hablan español y se interesen en participar en la Academia de Policía para Cuidadanos que se conduce en español.
El propuesto de la academia no es para hacer un oficial de el cuidadano, pero para educar y mostrar al cuidadano las funciones esenciales del Departamento de Policía. Mostrar como las diferentes divisiones dentro de el Departamento tienen distintos trabajos en servicio a la cuidadanía. Por ejemplo se mirarà al fondo el programa de D.W.I., la unidad canina, SWAT, el servicio de 911 y mucho mas de mucho interés.
No hay costo a los participantes. El programa se da gratis por el Departamento de Policía.
Para los interesados hay una solicitud que tendràn que llenar. Las clases se conducen cada martes y jueves empezando el 25 de septiembre de 2007, de 7:00p.m. a 10:00p.m., por 6 semanas. Al fin de este curso se celebrara la graduación de los estudiantes con un banquete.

EMPLOYEES HOST FUNDRAISER FINALE
Employees with the City of Midland are setting the pace! After a month long fundraising effort for United Way, employees are wrapping up the event with a finale celebration.
On Wednesday, September 5, 2007, from 11:30a.m. – 1:30 p.m., employees will host hot dog finale at Centennial Plaza. The media, and public, are invited to attend.
Plates will be available for a $3.00 donation. Any city employee who donates $2.00 a pay period ($48.00) can eat free. There will also be music and the event will be hosted by KHKX’s Mike and Dana.
Events were held throughout the month of August to promote the fundraiser including Pancake Breakfasts, a Softball Tournament at Hidalgo Park, and a BBQ lunch.
The theme for the United Way is “What Matters.” City employees want to show the community what matters by giving their full support to United Way.
