WARRANT ARREST
The Midland Police Department, assisting U.S. Marshals, arrested a man wanted out of Lubbock for Sexual Assault.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., officer investigating the whereabouts of Jose Luis Lopez (11-15-59) received a tip about his possible location. The U.S. Marshals and MPD Tactical team set up survaillence at the Economy Inn at 3411 W. Wall. They were able to confirm Lopez had a room registered in his name.
Officers attempted to gain entry into his room but it was locked from the inside. SWAT entered the room and found Lopez locked in the bathroom. He was taken into custody without incident.
Lopez had an active warrant out of Lubbock. Officers with the Lubbock Police Department are in route to Midland to talk with Lopez.
The Midland Police Department continues to work in cooperation with the Lubbock Police Department in an effort to determine if Lopez is a suspect in two Midland Sexual Assault cases, one from 1993 and another from 1994. Detectives in Midland are waiting on DNA confirmation form laboratory experts.
MPD’s investigation continues.
