MAYOR ENCOURAGES DISPLAY OF FLAGS
Midland Mayor Mike Canon is encouraging residents of the city to show their pride in America by flying a United State of America flag outside their homes and businesses on September 11th.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, American flags were displayed abundantly throughout the country as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. American’s patriotism pulled the country through tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize Americans solidarity.  The American flag is the fabric of this country and together citizens can prevail over terrorism of all kind.

On Tuesday, September 11th, 2007, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States.  Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this anniversary of our country's worst tragedy.  Do so in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends, and loved ones who continue to endure the pain and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

Thank you for your participation.  Let’s demonstrate our patriotism on this day of remembrance.

SEPTEMBER 11th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • The City Council will consider approving an agreement with the Commemorative Air Force (CAF).  The agreement allows the CAF to use portions of the Midland International Airport for staging and conducting of the AirSho.  The agreement not only allows the CAF to host the AirSho on Midland International Airport property it also allows for emergency personnel to be in place.  The CAF AirSho is set for September 29 & 30.
  • The City Council will consider approval of two items aimed at helping individuals purchase single family homes.  The City is working the Midland County Housing Finance Corporation to assist in this process.  If approved, the resolution would assign the City of Midland’s and the Midland County Housing Finance Corporation’s authority to the Midland County Housing Finance Corporation to issue family mortgage revenue bonds.  This is necessary because Midland County’s population would only support a very small issuance.  This process would allow for bonds to be issued in the amount of $10,000,000 for 2007 and 2008.
  • The Council will formally adopt a resolution between the City and Union Pacific Railroad Company.  This agreement allowed the City to make roadway improvements to the approximately two-mile stretch of Industrial Avenue.  The agreement grants a temporary lease of the road to the city.  The portion of Industrial Avenue falls within the railroad’s property and must be treated as a private road.  The agreement provides a temporary solution to the situation on Industrial Avenue.  The City Council will discuss options for the future at a later date.
