SMARTEST DOG IN MIDLAND
Does your pet have what it takes?  Can he or she jump high, play fetch, dance, communicate with humans, do math?  Take your pooch to the Smartest Dog in Midland Competition.  The event will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at 8:30 a.m. at Hogan’s Run Dog Park, 1201 E. Wadley.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three dogs.

This is the first of what will be monthly events held at the Dog Park.  For more information or to register, call Animal Services at 685.7420.


COMMUNITY CLEANUP
Wanting to clean out your garage?  Get rid of an old mattress, couch, or appliance?  Mark your calendar now for an upcoming City event.

The City of Midland Solid Waste Division will host a community-wide cleanup.  The event will be held on September 22, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Drop off locations will include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2300 Butternut Lane and Dunagan Park (next to Travis Elementary) 600 E. Gist.

Residents are encouraged to get rid of old items.  The City will accept large items including couches, chairs, bed frames, household furniture, water heaters, washers/dryers, refrigerators, freezers, A/C units, BBQ grills, swing sets, and patio furniture.

Help keep your neighborhood looking its best.  Participate in the community-wide cleanup!


CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN PACHANGA
Various departments and divisions from the City of Midland will participate in the Pachanga event scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, 2007, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  The celebration will take place at Hidalgo Park, 1401 Orchard Lane.  The community is invited to attend this free event.

Representatives from Code Enforcement, Police & Fire, the Health Department, Community Development Block Grant, and Parks & Recreation will pass out information about various programs.  There will also be information available regarding job opportunities with the City of Midland.

Police & Fire will display trucks, vehicles, and other equipment as well as the “smoke house” being available for children.

Pachanga is hosted by Comunidad in Action.  It is an opportunity for neighbors to come together, learn more about their community, and have a chance to fellowship with others.
