COMMUNITY CLEANUP
New Location
Wanting to clean out your garage? Get rid of an old mattress, couch, or appliance? Mark your calendar now for an upcoming City event.
The City of Midland Solid Waste Division will host a community-wide cleanup. The event will be held on September 22, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Drop off locations will include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2300 Butternut Lane, Dunagan Park (next to Travis Elementary) 600 E. Gist, and Greater Ideal Family Center, 301 S. Tyler.
Residents are encouraged to get rid of old items. The City will accept large items including couches, chairs, bed frames, household furniture, water heaters, washers/dryers, refrigerators, freezers, A/C units, BBQ grills, swing sets, and patio furniture.
Help keep your neighborhood looking its best. Participate in the community-wide cleanup!
SEPTEMBER SALES TAX REVENUES
The City of Midland has collected this month's revenue from the State Comptroller's Office. The total amount of revenue received was $1,819,939.
This month's figure reflects a 20.84% increase or a $313,903 increase from September 2006.
The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2006-2007 is up 15.90% or a $3,018,982 increase from last year's totals at this time. Fiscal year-to-date actual sales tax revenue is $22,011,118.
Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax income from two months prior to collection; September collection is based on July sales.
This is the 48th consecutive month of increased sales tax revenues when compared to the same month the prior year.
FIRE DEPARMENT HOSTS 2nd ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
The Midland Fire Department will host the 2nd annual Awards Dinner to honor those who have been recognized by their co-workers and the public for going above and beyond the call of duty.
The banquet will take place on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Midland Country Club.

SWEARING-IN CEREMONY
The Midland Police Department will welcome three new officers. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Friday, September 14, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in the third floor classroom.
Richard Adkisson, Jordan Boggs, and James Rex will take the oath of office. The three attended the South Plains College Academy.
They will move on to the Field Training Officer (FTO) program as Probationary Police Officers (PPO) for 17-weeks. During this time, they are teamed up with experienced officers and are rated daily on their performance in the field as well as paper work.
