RABIES
City of Midland Animal Services has received confirmation of a case of rabies found in a bat in northwest Midland.

On Tuesday, September 18, 2007, Lowe’s Home Improvement contact Animal Services in regards to a dead bat inside the store.  The bat was picked up and sent to a laboratory for rabies testing.  On Wednesday, September 19, 2007, the test results proved positive for rabies.

Anyone who was inside the Lowe’s store between September 8 and 18, 2007, and touched or had contact with a bat, should contact their medical professional.  It is unknown how long the bat was inside the store.

RETIREMENT
The Midland Fire Department will bid farewell to a long-time employee.  A reception will be held on Friday, September 28, from 2:00 p.m.4:00 p.m. at Central Fire.

Captain Gilbert Carter will enter into retirement after 26 years of service with the Midland Fire Department.  He first started work with the City in October of 1981 as a firefighter.  He was promoted to Driver in October of 1984 and then to Captain in January of 1988.

The Midland Fire Department wishes him well.  Please help make this a special day for the retiring employee and his family.
