SEPTEMBER 25th CITY COUNCIL MEETING

  • The City Council will proclaim September as National Preparedness Month.  Midland is part of a nationwide effort to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and schools.  The goal for the month has been to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action.  The City of Midland, its Health Department, Fire Department, and Police Department work in cooperation with other entities such as Midland County Emergency Management, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Midland Independent School District to best prepare our community for any emergency situation.
  • The City Council will consider approving the appropriation of funds to replace playground equipment at three different neighborhood parks.  The implementation of the Parks and Recreation & Open Space Master Plan 2006 includes the scheduling of new playground equipment at Ida Jo Moore, 701 W. Nobles; Sidwell, 500 Neely; and Henderson, 4701 Graceland.  Completion of the replacements is schedule for late 2008.  The upgrade of play equipment at various park sites was one of the top concerns expressed in the citizen survey conducted as a component of the park master plan.
  • The City Council will consider the execution of annual contracts with 21 Outside Agencies for the period of October 1, 2007, through September 30, 2008.  These agencies can be categorized as the following: promotion of tourism and the hotel industry; promotion of growth and development; and agencies that are an extension of city services.  A total of approximately $2 million will be distributed to the agencies.
